Creating a presentation isn't hard. For some it is daunting to actually present it, but the true skill lies in the presentation that is interesting and has some lasting impact.
I enjoyed checking out this short youtube today about "How to given an Awesome (PowerPoint) Presentation". The funny thing about it is in the end it actually suggests you rethink depending on PowerPoint altogether for your presentation. Is it really the best format? What are you trying to cram on each slide? It did however highlight a few key elements that are good for any presentation, whether it be hosted on PowerPoint or otherwise:
- consider your story you want to tell
- ensure there is a clear beginning, middle and end which links your points together
- try using low tech options during the brainstorming phase as this options keep you more "outside the box" in your thinking
- consider your options of how this presentation is best delivered. Does it even need a support such as handouts, white board, PowerPoint etc..
- Remember that "less is more" in terms of what is on slides as those that are listening, can't read at the same time
