"Playing a game together builds up bonds, trust and cooperation, and we build stronger social relationships because of it" Jane McGonigal TED Talk Feb 2010
I'd challenge you to watch this TED Talk and think about ways that we can involve Gameification into training with Volunteers. It's easy to think that this isn't something we need to do in our industry, however it is. We need to build trust between volunteers working together, with staff, and even in themselves. We trust them with tasks that they often wouldn't have been hired to do in their career, but we believe in their potential. They can take some risks and rise to the occasion when given the opportunity, combined with the passion for the job.

I do think that gamefication can have impact on our current and future world problems especially due to the ability allow for failure which allows us greater risk taking and in turn allows for "epic win".
While I too won't likely be referring to myself as a gamer or a game writer I have and will continue to use games in my teaching.
I have used Jeopardy or Price is Right to help learn facts in a fun way, I've done a game of Life for an activity to support understanding of risk management which was really well loved, as well as an Amazing Race and other fun ways to increase teamwork and trust.
Whether it is simply an icebreaker or something to dig deeper into understanding, games are important to our learning.
