Last night I realized over the last year I have completed five PIDP courses and I'm starting on sixth next week. I'm pretty proud of this fact as I've also had a baby and been home with two kids for the last 10 months squeezing in school readings, forum posts and blog entries during nap times and early waking hours..by night time I'm exhausted and about to start the night shift with my the baby who never sleeps.
I have taken all but one of the courses online and although I can't wait to take 3220 in person then move on to my capstone project I'll have to wait until the dates work for that course.
PIDP has been such an eye opening experience. First of all online courses are sometimes self paced and other times synchronous. There are group projects, and the sense of community built through the online forums and blogs that we all work so hard on. The courses also build on your on self efficacy as you gain skills and utilize ones you had no idea you had. Never would I have thought I would be building online digital cartoons and infographics in my training.
I've gained so many treasures in my journey. The projects either build on my meta-cognitive skills through the self reflective journal and blog, or provide practical projects that I can use immediately in my workplace.
The instructors are comfortable in this environment and are always there, even if you don't get to see them physically. The use of introduction videos that allow you to see their face makes all the difference to making them approachable in an online environment. Not to mention the fact that they always take the time to reach out and provide feedback or ask questions about your work.
I just can't say enough about my entire experience with PIDP so far and continue to find more treasure as I go.
